i cannot save x server display configuration. when i try to save the
setting for the second monitor which has been set as the primary display
for the x screen, i get the ff error message: Failed to parse existing
X config file '/etc/X11/xorg.conf'!
this is not a problem with ubuntu 8.10. my problem is with 9.10.

Have you tried typing the following lines into a terminal?
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
the above fix did not work for me
when i reboot & start up the computer, the update manager pops up with
the following message:
"not all updates can be installe
i installed computer janitor and ran it to clear space on my computer
system disk. & now "software index is broken" . so i did the suggested
fix: sudo apt-get install - f & got :

after installing today's updates & restarting the sysem, 10 trash bins

i haven't been able to restore the trash symbol since i upgraded to
hardy. but i discovered that i can delete & empty trash by going to
file browser and moving unwanted files to the "deleted items" folder. i
