If the window is minimised, it disappears completely, but the file transfer
continues (I presume)

I had the same problem, but not with contacts while with the Gmail
calendar. When I open the tab calendar it appear that it try to
synchronize the data, and it stay this way for a long time. Also I
noticed that the process /usr/lib/evolution/e-calendar-factory takes too

I get the two assert lines.
No segfault/crash.
But, I find an instance of gnome-appearance-properties in the background taking
100% CPU.

I can confirm this. Easily replicated by launching Tomboy on Hardy, and
then select Quit from the tray menu.
But if you launch it again, it wont happen anymore. It will reoccur
after a system restart.

Okay here is an update.
It seems that I can connect to my phone (SE w810i) again (after
