Contrary to Richard Thomas, I have my SMB-Shares mounted via GVFSD, not
in /etc/fstab.
The following happens with my gvfs-mounted SMB-shares:
* I can delete files

I just wanted to write about 780MB to a 800MB disc using brasero. The
disc was only recognized as 700MB by brasero, which wouldn't be a
problem. But the problem was that it wouldn't let me select to overburn
the disc, it just asked me to insert a larger disc.
It's brasero 0.8.2 in todays intrepid
It works for me too now, with the updated gdm.

Installed Hardy Alpha 5 over Gutsy, it happened then and it still
happened after I upgraded to Hardy Final.
I've successfuly used my workaround from above, and haven't seen any bad
effects so far.

I've had the same problem on my box. As a temporary fix, I changed --
retry 30 to --retry 2 in /etc/init.d/gdm, now there's only a almost
unnoticeable pause of two seconds during shutdown.
