With Nov 12, 2012 update the problem is solved for me. The VNC client
(vinagre 3.6.0) is working properly.

When I connect to a VNC server gives me the error "Violación de segmento
(`core' generado)" ("Segment Violation (`core 'generated)"). Connecting
through remmina runs smoothly. VNC servers I connect to UltraVNC under
windows are eight-digit password request.

I think the other folders in /media aren't useful because it also
automatically created in /media/username, I tried it with a CD and is
well. Will it be safe to delete all (/media/apt, /media/hdd,
/media/cdrom, /media/cdrom0) except username forder? There aren't in
/etc/fstab

I also upgraded from 12.04 to 12.10 and I had the same problem.
# Add a folder
sudo mkdir /media/USERNAME
# assign the folder to my user
sudo chown USERNAME.USERNAME /media/USERNAME
/media and other folders and directories are owned by root
/media/username is owned by username
