Sorry it's taken me a while to respond. My findings where the same as
Firesock and Robert Marshall. Thanks guys for testing.
I've now filed a bug with Gnome as requested.

My apologies, I only use rhythmbox on the little laptop I've encountered
this on so it didn't even occur to me to test in Totem.
Keys don't work in Totem or Exaile either. I guess this isn't a
rhythmbox issue.
Keys that do work:
Volume Up (Gnome Keyboard Shortcuts sees as XF86AUDIORAISEVOLUME)
I am using GNOME, yes.
dbus-monitor --session doesn't list anything at all,when I press the
non-working keys.
It does however list for the working ones. Do you want the output for
the working ones?

*Reproducible: Yes.
*Steps: Use a keyboard that has multimedia keys or some other device
(I'm using a Wii controller) that has buttons mapped to those keys.
*Keybindings: I'm not sure what you mean by keybindings dialog. Sorry.
Where should I look?
I've run xev and that correctly finds the

Shortcuts have no effect in Rhythmbox.
XF86audiovolume keys work but others like XF86AudioPlay do not.
