The "export LIBXCB_ALLOW_SLOPPY_LOCK=1" did nothing good (or bad) for
me, but the "non-xcb" version of libx11 did fix all problems I have
seen. Note that on Sept 9th I have sent Bryce and this list a minimal
X11 test program (source & binary) to reproduce the problem. It should

have been running correctly for many years on many platforms including
*BSD, Solaris and Linux. The problem is clearly not in the application,
