I also have this. Running strace -f gnome-settings-daemon seems to work though.. This happens well, randomly, when logging in to my other account it works fine. (almost every time). And once when I ran gnome-keyboard-properties, it fixed it. Running edgy amd64 -- [Edgy] gnome-settings-daemon
