Ubuntu 7.04.
I've just checked everything again. The speed with preview disabled is fine now:
1 sec to startup
1 sec to show my folders
1 sec for file-open dialoge (e.g. in gimp)
I now enabled preview again and it's still fast:
1 sec everything
I don't know when the speed was OK again, but
closing for now then, feel free to reopen if you get the bug again

Thank you for your bug. What version of Ubuntu do you use? What sort of
configuration do you have? How long does it take if you don't use
thumbnails? Nautilus is quite fast to open on my desktop
