This problem has re-occurred in 14.10.
This time I am able to change settings via gsettings or dconf, only for
them to be ignored.

I have just set the parameters by dconf in the cli, opened dconf gui
editor and the settings displayed are different.
Anybody able to reproduce or is it just me?
