Turns out the ipod was full of other stuff.What stuff I do not know. I had to use itunes to restore the settings. Now I can transfer the music fine. Does anyone know if it was rhythmbox which filled the ipod or what it was? -- Can put music on ipod using Rhythm box music player. https://bugs.laun
