I think I have found a replacement for Nautilus, it is called Nemo (!).

It is included in Ubuntu's 13.10 defa
Am with Geraldo on this one. Whoever took the decision really needs to
study more about decision making and user friendliness.

It a project bug then!
The status bar is a nice feature and very simple to program and
maintain. At the very least, why not leave it disabled by default and
give the user the option to enable it?

The bar missing goes in the bottom (there is no option in preferences).
Typically shows how many items (folders and files) are in the current
folder and how much disk space is left. It was there in 12.10 under the
View option in the menu
