As it happens it seems during the upgrade gnome-screensaver was
uninstalled.
After re installing it, lock screen works just fine.

I am using a standard Ubuntu (with Unity) desktop 64-bit in a Lenovo
Y500.
Ctrl+Alt+L is listed as the keybinding for Lock Screen. Also, Clicking
Lock in the main menu does not work.
In 12.10 it worked for me in other computers but not in the Lenovo Y500.
