You were right. It is the Libraw library that doesn't support this
rawformat of my camera. The library seems to be ancient actually. My
camera is the olympus xz-2 that is only supported from may 2013. Thanks

The other possibility (and the one I'm more leaning toward now) is that
LibRaw doesn't recognize the .orf files. LibRaw is the library Shotwell
uses to process RAW files.
