In the 2.8 GIMP, The bug is still existing !
I find it really unpleasant and breaking my mind idea ! I thinks is one on the
most unintuitive functionality who make a lot off people chose other product !
Knowing it was in 2.4.0 Gimp and remove after make me think "Better is the
enemy of Good"

After an IRC conversation, that was intentionally removed from the new
version of the gimp, you should use what i told you "paste as -> new
image". thanks.

I've just installed Gutsy with Gimp 2.4.0 RC3 and can confirm this is
still happening. Selecting the option to create a new image offers a
fixed image size of 420x300 pixels rather than it being sized to the
last item copied to the clipboard. A workaround if copying with Gimp
(from an open image to
