My xorg.conf "Depth" entries all read 24, but an update midday Saturday October 13 broke something relating to this "greeter application" seeming to be crashing, for me and one other user so far (more detail in the newest entries at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=190310 ). -- gdmgreeter

I am using 7.10, with all recent updates. I need further information on how to get a backtrace on this program, since it seems to be started by gdm. How do I start X without gdm, for example? Will gdmgreeter run without gdm? It's not clear to me that gdmgreeter is crashing, or just terminati
