My xorg.conf "Depth" entries all read 24, but an update midday Saturday
October 13 broke something relating to this "greeter application"
seeming to be crashing, for me and one other user so far (more detail in

Nothing is written to ~/.xsession-errors from /etc/init.d/gdm start to the
display of the dialog.
