Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. Unfortunately a paper
cut should be a small usability issue that affects many people and is
quick and easy to fix. I'm afraid this bug can't be addressed as part of
this project.
This is more of a feature request.

It would be nice to solve this along with bug 389873 (Inconsistent:
Opening new tab in Nautilus, Gedit and Firefox) and get tab behaviour
consistent along all apps.

Thanks for you report, that's like a gtk+ issue. In gedit you can use
ctrl+alt+pgUp/pgDown for switching tabs. Re assigning to gtk+ for now.
