it's not marked duplicate because looking for the exact number of the
hundred of duplicates sent every week would take hours and I think it's
better use of those hours to work on bugs rather than looking at nu

I've a similar problem with exactly the same symptoms. In my case it was
a 26mb MySQL dump with some extremely long lines that appeared to be
typed over each other. On top of that, gedit is painfully slow in
dealing with large text files. Sometimes taking minutes to respond to
input.
