I think that problem might be related to file in your .local directory.
In short I think that everything should work if you remove both gnome-
panel.desktop

Yes. I found one in both the .config and in the .local directories:
09:43][jose@jose-desktop: ~]$ locate gnome-panel.desktop
/home/jose/.config/autosta
