Atm I'd put 'blame' on ubuntu themes (ambiance, radiance) while in wayland
session & maybe only with gedit.
If using awaita theme this won't occur even if the bubble menu opens slightly
outside header bar.

Now that you mention it, I'm not sure. It's not uncommon for some
toolkits to be designed to activate a popup-menu item on button release.
I didn't consider that part a bug.
