Run this command in a terminaL:
sudo apt install tracker
Log out and log back in.
You can configure indexed folders in Settings > Search > gear button.
tracker was not installed by default in Ubuntu 17.10 because of worries
about performance. See LP: #176. I am hoping that it will be
