I have same behaviors.
The different icons on my desktop not working. (home, trash and any folder)
also with right click and select Open or open in new window or in new panel.
The Other icons works successfully: *.desktop and files with default
application.

The description is not clear, does it fail to open a nautilus window, or
does it open an empty one? is that specific to the desktop? does it
happen every time using those steps?
