Public bug reported: After installing Ubuntu 17.10 and updating I then tried to install discord from the gnome software tool
When i did this i got the error "Unable to install Discord Failed to read from snapd: Error receiving data: Connection reset by peer" On IRC it was recommended i report this bug and i was given a workaround sudo snap install gnome-3-26-1604 sudo snap install discord This installed discord but then my gnome-software was showing it as installable still, but unable to install I then removed it with sudo snap remove discord Then i was able to install it correctly using gnome software and now it knows it is installed Some other notes: <gluon> it's not a bug, it's the way snappy works right now <gluon> it doesn't automatically install that gnome dep <nacc> gluon: it's *definitely* a bug that the software center cannot install something, IMO <gluon> and then gnome software fails <nacc> gluon: it's a bug in gnome software -- they can choose not to fix it, but it's still a bug :) <gluon> nacc: yeah, fair enough, but it's related to snappy <gluon> right <nacc> gluon: yeah, i imagine it is :) <nacc> gluon: i'd just rather it get documented, if it's nont already <gluon> it's definitely unexpected beahaviour at least <nacc> (bug = documentation, in this case) <gluon> perhaps gnome-software on ubuntu should be aware of this and pull the gnome dep using snap, before installing any snaps that depend on it <gluon> or maybe snappy should do it automatically <nacc> gluon: this is just that snapd can't resolve the interfaces needed by a snap <nacc> gluon: resolve = install them as deps <gluon> not even on the command line <gluon> i'm not sure that's by design or still a lacking feature gluon> but i shall investigate ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 17.10 Package: gnome-software 3.26.1-0ubuntu2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.13.0-16.19-generic 4.13.4 Uname: Linux 4.13.0-16-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.7-0ubuntu3.4 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Thu Nov 16 18:14:06 2017 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/gnome-software InstallationDate: Installed on 2017-11-16 (0 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 17.10 "Artful Aardvark" - Release amd64 (20171018) InstalledPlugins: gnome-software-plugin-flatpak N/A gnome-software-plugin-limba N/A gnome-software-plugin-snap 3.26.1-0ubuntu2 ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=en_GB:en PATH=(custom, no user) XDG_RUNTIME_DIR=<set> LANG=en_GB.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: gnome-software UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: gnome-software (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug artful wayland-session -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-software in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1732757 Title: Gnome Software doesn't let me install Discord on fresh 17.10 install To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-software/+bug/1732757/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
