Yes. I verified that using the kernel 4.15 does not fix the problem.

Good point. The default session is Xorg now. And I can't seem to find a
way to force Wayland using that iso.

I booted this image and no longer experience the issue.
I'm not sure if the default for this image is Wayland or Xorg...
the command "echo $DESKTOP_SESSION" gave "ubuntu".
The other thing is that I installed the packages linux-headers-4.15.0-10 and
linux-image-4.15.0-10-generic on my 17.10 ins

Other people are saying that kernel 4.15 has fixed the problem. Can you
please try testing it by booting this?
