A get around to this problem could be using a little program on the "Execute a program" box (see attachment) in the Advance Actions menu (Knetworkmanager>Options>Configure).
That program should replicate whatever is done when one clicks on the chosen network available -which btw could be passed in as an argument to that program. This is just a suggestion, that would work in my particular case.
