It appears the relationship between zsh and gnome-shell can be explained: 1. zsh writes to ~/.zsh_history after each command. 2. The Modify and Change timestamps of ~ change each time. 3. gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons monitors ~/Desktop/* but also ~ because your home folder appears on the
