Okay, please ignore my above message. I found the culprit - I had
without knowing made a rule for outgoing messages to put the sent
messages in the friends folder under inbox.
I have managed to take my first steps in evolution myself. Regret
inconvenience (if any) caused.

I have the same problem and did as said above. In my inbox - there are
sub folders via filters. HOwever if a friend writes to me - it goes into
the correct folder, and if I reply to him - the reply does not go to the
sent folder - but to the friends folder. is this corret.

Thank you for opening this bug and helping make Ubuntu better. This is
not a bug, but expected behaviour. Evolution does not physically delete
messages until an expunge is performed. Instead, messages are marked
logically deleted in the original folder; additionally, the Trash folder
is a virtual
