I'm aware this is a very dated thread, but I absolutely agree with Greg
here. As a plasma user making my way to Gnome, I don't expect the full
customization that I'm accustomed to; however philosophical ideologies
taking a toggle for something like this seems a bit ridiculous and
overstepping.

But in Windows there's an easy option to change that.
You should let users decide what's best for them, instead of making your own
rules.

Note that Nautilus won’t warn you before *trashing* (Del) a file, but
will before *deleting* (Shift+Del) a file.
Even in Windows (since Windows 8), trashing a file doesn’t trigger a
confirmation dialog, just if you are to delete it permanently… This
default behavior seems fine to me…

I don't want to switch file managers.
This should be available in the default installation.
So users can just open some "Settings" page, and check "show confirmation
dialog when deleting files".

Just a brief note, I had a play on 18.04 LTS using GNOME and straight
after deleting a file I was offered a message "blah deleted (undo)"
which is in my opinion equivalent to the delete message anyway. Same
response as in 19.10 (which has a later gnome/nautilus)
