Thanks, you should be able to delete from the desktop but that not working

Well, this is embarrassing. I cannot reproduce this issue.
I had saved a copy of steam.desktop elsewhere, so I copied it back to
the desktop (`cp ~/temp/steam.desktop ~/Desktop/`), and attempted to
delete it again from the desktop. I got the same beep sound, and the
file was not deleted*. Opening

Correction: When I said "Alt+F2" above, I meant "Ctrl+Alt+F1", as the
whole X had frozen.
I should also mention that I'm running a Radeon RX 5700 GPU with the
default AMDGPU driver - and am separately experiencing random GPU
lockups, which could explain the whole-screen lockup I mentioned in
paren
