Looks like gnome-shell is checking for updates to extensions on startup. https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome- shell/commit/db9ef11f2893eae0905b091be361ff5417156beb?merge_request_iid=945 There is an upstream PR to add an option to turn this behavior off.
