I believe this is fixed with the new gnome-display-properties tool. If
not, please feel free to reopen with additional detail.

Same happens here with:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Rage Mobility M3
AGP 2x (rev 02)
I don't get the highes resolution though, it keeps resetting to the
lowest. And with the wrong refresh rate so my screen goes "picasso" on
me.

I had this problem when I upgraded to a new monitor a few days ago.
Changing from "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" to "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" in xorg.conf did indeed
work. Should this be a displayconfig-gtk bug?

You r
I'd be willing to bet that if you check your xorg.conf files the refresh
rate on the modelines is too high. For example my settings used to be:
modeline "[EMAIL PROTECTED]"
Editing the xorg.conf so that the only modeline available is:
modeline "[EMAIL PROTECTED]"
make this problem disappear
Problem also occurs on a RADEON 9550.

Please open a new bug for the "font holes" problem.
FWIW, I've seen this too with the freeware version of Eagle CAD
(propriatory binary software, linked against its own copy of QT). This
is available through apt-get on gutsy. I'm guessing the bugs are
similar, so please subscribe me to the new bug
This was corrected when i additionally set the:
System->Preferences->Screen resolution to the same value. Still the log
on screen remained the wrong type and my Mathematica program showed
fonts as holes in paper and i had to use black background to see them.

The same here with ATI Radeon 9200 PRO card and Nokia 446Xpro monitor.
The display is even set perhaps to Liquid crystal mode when booting.
The cursor disappears too. When corrected (difficult to resolve) by the
menu: Screens and graphics, it forgets it in the next boot.

Same problem. Using nvidia 8600GT. Settings are not remembered using
either Preferences->Screen Resolution or Administration->Screens and
Graphics. My monitor's native resolution is 1680x1050, it keeps
defaulting to 1400x1050.

You probably have used the gnome resolution setting tool (system -
preferences - screen resolution?). Check that, and set the resolution
there and you should be fine.

Same problem occurs if you log off and log back on. Resolution always
returns to highest setting.
