Thanks for your report, for debugging a program running you can use: gdb
/path/to/program PID. Can you obtain a strace log too? thanks.
** Changed in: gucharmap (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided => Low
Assignee: (unassigned) => Ubuntu Desktop Bugs (desktop-bugs)
Status: New => Incomple
Debugging that way doesn't seem to correctly load all the debugging
symbols, e.g.:
Breakpoint 1, 0xb7beb313 in gucharmap_settings_set_last_char ()
from /usr/lib/libgucharmap.so.6
(gdb) n
Single stepping until exit from function gucharmap_settings_set_last_char,
which has no line number informa
The gucharmap package is not dependent on gconf as it should be. Perhaps
this is causing a build problem?

Also does not work if i use Alt-F2 to run gucharmap.
BUT
If I compile the source myself (from the ubuntu repos) and then run the
resulting binary from either the command line or Alt-F2, everything
works.
