Instead of filing an new bug report I found this one. Firefox and Thunderbird default to a font size of 16. They don't tell me that it's sixteen points (as in typographic points pt as 1/64 inch). But if it were 16pt it would be the size of a headline and the messages do appear like that. Now my

It looks like this bug has reverted with Feisty's Firefox (2.0.0.1 +0dfsg-0ubuntu2). Increasing the DPI in gnome-font-preferences (from 130 to 160, down to or 120) affects the UI's fonts, but not the webpage fonts. Tested on gmail.com, ubuntuforums.org, launchpad.net, and forum .go-compiz.org.

I did further testing with firefox dpi settings, and I found something new, depending whether Xft.dpi is set or not, the behavior will not be the same. Also, firefox 1.5 seems awfully broken, while firefox 2.0 behaves much more like I expected. I'll just attach a text file with what I saw,
