You have been subscribed to a public bug: Hi, I know the Gnome Shell extension "Desktop Icons" cause much irrational behavior under Ubuntu 20.04.
But, coping some file on the ubuntu's desktop (right click -> copy) and then paste in any other folder used to work perfectly so far. I've noticed that since yesterday, this feature isn't functional anymore. I can copy via right click easily, but when it comes to paste the file/folder, the paste option is unavailable (grayed out).
