James, you instruction got the drive working. I also, removed the line
when I finished trying this.
Sebastien, can you direct me to the pertinent report? I posted back

Hi,
Could you please try mounting from the command line
to see if this is a problem with nautilus or lower
down the stack?
Firstly check that the floppy module is loaded by running
lsmod | grep floppy
then edit /etc/fstab and add a line at the end that says
/dev/fd0 /media/floppy0 vfat rw,us
