I haven't had problems with this on Ubuntu 8.10, I suppose it can be
closed, unless somebody else still has the same problem...

seems like it's happening after some changes occur. If the box is busy
with lots of different processes, the order is almost immediately wrong,
if the box is mostly idleing it takes a longer time to get the sorting
wrong.

* open system monitor
* click on "% CPU" to sort
* watch how it's not sorted -> see attached image

I just opened the System Monitor, enabled View Dependencies and
disabled again. The columns are sorted by cpu.
