Thanks, yes that's the same bug. "Judder" just means the display server
is cycling through double or triple buffers. "Static" means it's
probably single buffering (copied). But those details are not directly
relevant to the main problem here.

Also occurs on Wayland, though it looks a little different: the vertical
strips of "old" screen are wider, and they judder around when the mouse
moves, rather than remaining fully static on x11.

Sounds like a problem that's only going to exist in Xorg sessions. Can
