I also obtained an strace, hope thats more helpful.
Evolution was running already. I attached strace to its PID and tried to open
the preferences.

Hi,
i have exactly the same problem. Please find attached the backtrace i
obtained running gdb. From my understanding it is empty though. I don't
know what i did wrong.
