There is nothing at this point in gnome-screensaver to make it deserve
be installed by default.
Quite the opposite: the integration with the rest of the system makes it
worthwile to have gss instead of xss.

i also have the big problem that i cant reproduce it
on *any* of my machines over here which makes
testing while coding a bit hard.

sure thats what i do, but during coding i like to be able to type make, copy
the binary in place and test it ... instead of building a package, uploading it
and waiting for feedback ...

i'm trying to find a sane way to set the visual for GL screensavers its
pretty tricky since g-s-s has no way to distinguish GL from non GL
screensavers

is available at all (i'm not sure if X has sane fallback mechanisms for that if
you force a visual)
