strange bars of color when watching video
I changed an option in the Multimedia Systems Selctor that was initially
set to Autodetect and I changed plugin option to X Window System (No Xv)
and Totem stopped hanging and I can play videos perfectly now. I'm not
sure why this changed anything but I'm definately glad it did.

I have the same issue with the Intel onboard video card called IntelĀ®
Graphics Media Accelerator 3100 onboard graphics subsystem
From Totem, VLC, mplayer etc...
This issue appear only when Compiz or other composite is enable!
