I did try uninstalling and changing the server from India to main
server. Brasero installation went on well. I think the brasero package
in the Indian server is/was corrupted.
I think there is a need to relook into the packages in Indian server as
I also faced some difficulties in installing cairo-
Ok, then try uninstalling the brasero package again and removing it from the
cache. Then change the server to 'Main Server' and install brasero... Tell us
if the corrupted package archive error went away.

hmmm, maybe the .deb is actually corrupt on the server? can you tell us
which server your system downloads packages from? you can find this if
you go to System->Administrat

Hmmm, yes, it seems it doesn't download the package again, since it's already
there in the cache...
Remove it by typing 'sudo rm
/var/cache/apt/archives/brasero_0.7.1-3ubuntu1_i386.deb'
Then repeat the above 'sudo aptitude install brasero'

i tried to do a 'sudo aptitude install brasero' (without the single
quotes) but still the package could not be installed. The following is
the output on the terminal:
