I have 7.04 fully updated running on a Dell Vostroand noticed that Samba shares
created in my hard drive or CD-ROM driver are fully functional in Nautilus,

Okay, this bug is fixed in Tribe 5. However, I still couldn't get to my
Samba shares, but this might be a problem with my setup.

This bug means you cannot get to Samba shares, so this must be marked
higher than medium and fixed for Gutsy at the very least. The connect
to server alternative does not work for me and is counter-intuitive for
new users.

I am seeing this same problem in Feisty.
To reproduce:

Ubuntu menu-Places-Network-Windows Network-the alanos-NATHANS
where the alanos is my smb workgroup (though I usually type it in all upper
case, nautilaus is showing it in lower case) and NATHANS is the name of an XP
Home PC.
Forgot to add that I get the exact same results when trying to connect
to an XP Pro workstation.
Also, I scrambled the last three lines of the last post.

Using Places-Connect to Server... and specifying a share name
Aha! No more backtraces at home, but getting them at work. I took the
liberty of installing some other dbg packages, e.g. for gtk2 and glib,
to get a more complete trace.

Nautilus whilst browsing Windows shares under Edgy's Nautilus.
