the other bug is not really a crash either, the processure hits an error
when there is no swap that can be used for example

There's a distinct difference between these bugs. gedit does not crash,
it just uses an insane amount of memory (which cripples the system once
it starts writing to swap). It also happens immediately upon loading and
becomes unresponsive, rather than having anything to do with scrolling.
