There's no gnome-font-viewer in GNOME 2.23 that was deprecated, closing
this report. Also a Bug Tracking System is not the right place to
discuss such things you can mail the ubuntu desktop mailing list for
example to discuss changing the defaults, thanks i nadvance.

Thats definitely another bug, I'm reopening this bug until someone has
found a valid duplicate or when it comes clear that a font-vieuwer is
not needed as default.

Yeah, I saw a few of them but they didn't really address the problem of
a lack of a viewer. Well, thanks anyway..
