Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

Muting the volume of a device (master track) using the Volume Applet
slider fails. Sound (albeit quietly) can still be heard from the
speakers, even though the icon changes to signify the volume is muted.

Muting using right click -> mute works: no sound can be heard.

This behavior also appears in Volume Control, but dropping the slider to
the bottom doesn't set the mute flag (and it doesnt appear to for any
track). Is this correct behavior for the master track? If so then the
volume applet should not set the mute flag unless mute is specified by
right click > mute.

Volume Applet 2.22.2
Volume Control 2.22.0
