Focus does not follow my mouse pointer unless I click. I close the
windows by clicking the close icon in the title bar.

What kind of focus do you use for your mouse? How do you close the
windows open? Maybe the focus follow the pointer and you move it over
the desktop to close the application open?

You're right... the focus wasn't on the window. There is some strange
behavior related to focus and highlighting that only seems to affect
video files. I should note that video files on my system open in xine
by default.
