I was able to recover my contacts. I discovered that the old (Hardy-
era) addressbook.db appeared to be using Berkeley DB version 7, while
the current version of Evolution appeared to be using version 9. I
installed the db4.6-util package and then did:
evolution --force-shutdown
cd
I did a back up settings in ubuntu 9.04 and reinstalled it, then
restored settings and i can't acces my adressbook because some
permission is denied... this is wayyy to bad... any ideas?
regards,
Santiago

I am just seeing this bug now as well. Does anyone know how to get my
contacts back? They still appear to exist in
~/.evolution/addressbook/local/system/addressbook.db.

I also have missing contacts after upgrading from Ubuntu 8.04 to 8.10
(Evolution 2.24.1-0ubuntu2). However, for me not all of the contacts
are missing. My primary contacts folder displays 46 contacts, but
strings ~/.evolution/addressbook/local/system/addressbook.db |grep
'^BEGIN:VCARD' |wc -l
A quick grep for one contact, shows that my contacts are in a database - one
that is apparently not being read.

And digging deeper shows me that my calendar is still there also, but it's in
not in the '~/.evolution/calendar/local/system/' folder so it's probably isn't
being read as well.

do you get any error on the command line if you run evolution there?

No command line errors save for:
** (evolution:7322): DEBUG: mailto URL command: evolution %s
** (evolution:7322): DEBUG: mailto URL program: evolution
which is probably unrelated to this bug report.

It also looks like my calendar appointments are gone too. I've got a
backup of my installation before the upgrade. Would it be helpful if I
restored the image and ran through upgrade process again? I can't
guarantee that I'll be able to do this until late tomorrow though.

evolution contacts
Yes, but first, please try looking through your ~/.evolution to see if
the data is really missing or if it is just not being read for some
reason.
