Some more info, vinagre can connect to ipv6 addresses entered in the gui, but
not on the command line.
I guess I could hack the command line parser to be able to use ipv6 there too.
One way is ip:v6::adress/port to differentiate from ip.v.4.address:port

I guess vinagre is just not aware of ipv6 on commandline, internal it's ok. It
thinks the first colon marks end of ipv4 address and then comes the port...
