Which version of Ubuntu do you use? In the gnome-keybinding-properties dialog, I can easily click on the Play/Pause line, then press the Play/Pause key on my keyboard and configure it that way. Does that help somehow? Or is this not possible for you? -- Keyboard Shortcuts Dialog Box should
