Binary package hint: gcalctool

I'm not sure if this is exactly a bug, but I can't seem to find where
this "feature" is turned off. What are these seemingly random numbers in
the middle of the calculator? I figured out ctrl+d turns them off, but
what are they for? Why is there no other way to turn it off than ctrl+d?
