I cannot reproduce this on Karmic, using:
1) Lock the screen
2) Press the power button
I get a password prompt as expected, with no shutdown in 60s. Anyone
else?

Hi, I don't use karmic anymore, but in Jaunty the problem is solved as
far as I can see.
When I press the power button while the screen is locked the the
password prompt is also shown.

I'll send this upstream, once I've checked this issue doesn't exist in
2.26.x. The newer gnome-power-manager has changed quite significantly so
this issue might have been fixed already.

Thank you for your bug report. Yes, I agree that it is not ideal that it
calls the session dialog when the screen is locked. I'm not sure if it
should just do nothing though, but I do agree that this is a bug
